Who is Sri Satpremananda Maharaj?
Sri Satpremananda Maharaj is a French Sadhu, Hindu monk and spiritual teacher. He discovered meditation at the age of 9 and immersed himself in various contemplative traditions: Tibetan Buddhism and Zen, Jainism, Sufism. He then deepened the Aghor tradition, in the lineage of Aghoracharya Baba Kinaram Ji and Aghoreshwar Mahaprabhu Ji. He belongs to no path exclusively. His vision is universalist: all religions lead to God, but God remains beyond all of them. He teaches in French, English, Spanish and Hindi.
What is the Aghor Path?
The Aghor Path is a non-dual spiritual path rooted in Hinduism. Its tradition goes back to ancient times, associated with the teachings of Shiva and the wisdom of the sages of India. It was structured in the 16th century by Aghoracharya Baba Kinaram in Varanasi. The word “Aghor” literally means “that which is neither difficult nor terrible”: it is a simple and natural state of consciousness, free from fear, hatred, disgust and discrimination. Its central vision is non-duality: only the Supreme Reality, called God, Brahman, Shiva or Self, is truly real, and all of humanity is part of that supreme Self. The teachings of Aghor transcend religions and labels. Its practice rests on two pillars: sādhanā (personal spiritual practice) and seva (selfless service to those in need). Aghor is not a path of rejection but a path of total acceptance and love.
What is his spiritual lineage and vision?
Sri Satpremananda Maharaj was formed in the Aghor lineage from Aghoracharya Baba Kinaram Ji and Aghoreshwar Mahaprabhu Ji, without belonging to it exclusively. In November 2024, Baba Gurupad Sambhav Ram Ji, successor of Aghoreshwar Mahaprabhu Ji, invited him to carry and share this transmission. He accepted the call while remaining faithful to his inner freedom: his fidelity goes to Truth and lived experience, beyond labels and borders.
His vision is deeply universalist: all religions lead to God, but God remains beyond all of them. Like a mountain with many slopes, each with its beliefs, its rites and its traditions, all paths converge on the same summit. Religions are humanity's path to God. God belongs to none of them. He has a thousand names, a thousand forms, a thousand faces. As the Rig Veda says: Ekam sad viprā bahudhā vadanti. Truth is One; the wise call it by many names. (Rig Veda 1.164.46)
What has his spiritual journey been?
Sri Satpremananda Maharaj's journey is an ongoing process, begun at the age of 9. Very early, meditation became an obvious necessity and the inner search the guiding thread of his life. Over the years, he immersed himself in various contemplative traditions: Tibetan Buddhism and Zen, Jainism, Sufism. He then deepened the Aghor path. This journey is marked by many experiences and realisations, including a pivotal moment on his first trip to Varanasi: seated by the Ganges, he received in his sādhanā the spiritual grace (kripa) and the blessing of Aghoreshwar Mahaprabhu Ji, in an experience of subtle presence beyond the physical body. This experience sealed a search begun in childhood, but it is only one moment among many in a living, ongoing journey.
Where does he teach?
Until recently, Sri Satpremananda Maharaj taught mainly in India, in direct contact with Indian seekers, within the Aghor tradition. His life is now nomadic: he spends most of the year in Asia (India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cambodia) and returns occasionally to Europe to transmit. He teaches in French, English, Spanish and Hindi, online and during immersive spiritual retreats organised by Air Nirvana. One of his Indian devotees also built him an ashram in the region of Uttar Pradesh, in North India, where he stays regularly to give teachings.
What is a free Sadhu?
A Sadhu is a Hindu renunciate engaged on a path of spiritual realisation. The word “free” points to the absence of attachment to an institution or a fixed dogma, and to fidelity to inner experience rather than a formal structure. A free Sadhu belongs to no church, no organisation, no exclusive religious label. His only authority is the direct experience of Truth.
What is a guru?
The word “guru” is a Sanskrit term meaning “teacher”, “spiritual guide”, “master”. Its traditional etymology: “gu” means darkness, and “ru” the light that dispels it. The guru is therefore the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance. In the West, this word has been misused, often associated with figures of manipulation or self-proclaimed masters. A true guru imposes nothing: he illuminates, he guides, he accompanies. He does not create dependence but helps you find inner freedom. He does not place himself above but beside, like an elder brother on the path. The true guru-disciple relationship is one of trust, respect and freedom.

What is Air Nirvana Academy?
Air Nirvana Academy is the online teaching platform of Sri Satpremananda Maharaj. It will offer talks, seminars and guided practices in non-dual meditation and self-hypnosis. It will be available soon. Join the waiting list to be notified when it opens.
What is Air Nirvana?
Air Nirvana offers immersive spiritual retreats in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and other places in Asia, in small groups and in contact with living traditions. Each retreat is designed as a true immersion: meditation, transmission, teachings, times of silence, pilgrimages, visits to temples and sacred sites, encounters, contemplation, but also rest and renewal. In keeping with the philosophy of the Aghor lineage, where selfless service (seva) is inseparable from spiritual realisation, part of the proceeds from retreats is given to social projects: education for underprivileged children, care for those in need, support for the most vulnerable.
Why are retreats, courses and talks paid for?
Sri Satpremananda Maharaj has always taught his Indian students free of charge, in direct contact with the Aghor tradition. For retreats organised internationally, online teachings (Air Nirvana Academy), in-person talks in Europe and one-to-one guidance for Western students, a contribution is asked. This contribution does not pay for the teaching itself, which remains a gift. It covers his material needs, logistics, dignified and safe conditions for all participants, as well as social projects.
This approach is rooted in the philosophy of the Aghor lineage, where seva (selfless service) is inseparable from spiritual realisation.
How can I support the teaching and projects?
Sri Satpremananda Maharaj is a free Sadhu, with no institution and no salary. He lives from contributions linked to retreats, courses and one-to-one guidance. These cover his material needs and allow him to continue his teaching. A share is devoted to social projects: education for underprivileged children, care for those in need, support for the most vulnerable. If you wish to go further and directly support his teaching and the projects connected to it, you can make a free donation via PayPal. Every contribution, whatever its size, is an offering.
